Superintendent Message: May 2018

Dear Community,

This year we are asking residents to vote on the 2018-19 budget proposal, which totals $81.1 million and projects a 0% tax rate increase. The expenditure plan, which will be presented to voters on Tuesday, May 15, includes a:

  • Projected tax rate* of $24.33 per $1,000 of assessed home value, which is the same rate as last year.
  • Tax levy of $37.2 million, an increase of 2.57%, which is less than the 2.74% maximum allowable tax levy with exclusions.

The proposed budget reflects:

  • Feedback provided from the volunteers serving on the Budget Focus Group, 2017 exit polls and the Board of Education;
  • A concerted effort to achieve a zero increase in tax rate in response to property re-assessments in Ogden, Parma, and portions of Gates;
  • The use of reserve funds and appropriated fund balance;
  • Continuation of our instructional programs and student opportunities.

The community budget vote on the 2018-19 proposal will be held from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15. More budget details, along with the schedule of public presentations may be found in this edition of Cornerstone. The exit polls consistently indicate this newsletter as the primary communication for budget information, so we hope you find this issue helpful. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at

Thank you for your ongoing support and feedback throughout this process.
