Staff and students in the news
Please join me in congratulating junior Lindsey Mitchel on being selected to participate in a summer internship program at the University of Rochester - Laboratory for Laser Energetics. She will be working with the head of the program (Stephen Craxton) on a project called "Exploration of the feasibility of Polar Drive on the LMJ". This is a tremendous honor as Lindsey is only one of 16 students in the summer program. Congratulations are also in order for sophomore Eric Ziegler on qualifying for the New York State Track and Field Championship that were held this past weekend in Syracuse. Eric is representing Section V as this year’s championship based on winning the title in long jump last weekend. This is an incredible accomplishment due to the competition that Eric faced here in Section V and will encounter at the State Championship.
Class of 2009 - Top Ten: Please join me in congratulating this year’s Valedictorian for the Class of 2009, Margaret Meyerhofer, and the Salutatorian, Marybeth McGreevy. The other members of the Top Ten in alphabetically order include: Emily Connors, Laura Schrader, Calla Goeke, Jason To, James Liebow, Brianna Vespone, Nicholas Restaino, Marissa Wimer
This is an incredible accomplishment and I would like to ask that you join me in congratulating these 10 amazing scholars.
Literacy Update: Please join me in congratulating Bridget Herrmann, Beth Brooks, Amanda Van Huben, Colleen Zimmer, and Karen Fenton on the work that they performed with our Literacy Coach, Sue Witter. These five teachers worked with Sue throughout the school year and targeted about 20 of our students in an effort to raise their reading scores. Through a variety of strategies and direct intervention, on average the students raised their reading by 2.16 grade levels. The students were first assessed in September and their progress was measured throughout the school year and Sue shared the results with me last week during our quarterly meeting. This is an amazing accomplishment for our students and one that could not have occurred without high quality teaching from the teachers working with each and every child.
