NEW Rating Day set

Due to the need for scoring the state assessments, a Rating Day has been rescheduled to Monday, April 30.

There will be no school for students in grades K-8 on that day. This date has been changed from Friday, April 27 to now Monday, April 30. To reiterate:

  • April 27: school in session
  • April 30: No school for K-8

Please make this change on your calendars, and thank you for your patience as Spencerport adheres to the state's revised dates.

Munn first grader featured on YNN news for healthy living, blessings

Greetings Munn Families,

Our professional staff is committed to providing a nurturing, caring, supportive and challenging academic environment for all of our students. We are focused on the Spencerport mission and the goals of the strategic plan. The educational experience the children at Munn receive will prepare them to be academically successful and positive contributors to our global community.

All students, staff and community will have a genuine sense of belonging at Munn Elementary School

In January, the Spencerport Board of Education held their meeting at Munn School.  The building planning team provided the BOE with an overview of our building goals and our successes to date.  Please click on the link to review our presentation http://prezi.com/gnjr_gtn1wdm/munn-bpt-presentation-to-the-boe/

At the January SOAR assembly we highlighted our efforts as a building with the theme of acceptance from the month of December.  Throughout the month, students and staff have been learning about the importance of including each other in all we do at Munn.  Our classroom lesson was called CROSSING THE LINE.  This provided each of us the opportunity to see each other as individuals and the challenges we all manage.  Our staff participated in the lesson at the SOAR assembly and students shared their reflections from the their RC journals.  Both experiences were certainly powerful.  This month we also partnered with the transportation department in our first peaceful bus lesson.  The lesson focused on a brief review of bus expectations, celebrating what is going well on our buses and identifying where we can support students to improve behavior.  These lessons afford students, staff and the bus driver an opportunity to partner to insure a safe and enjoyable ride to and from school.

At the December SOAR assembly we continued our efforts to celebrate the many ways students and staff show kindness, compassion and acceptance at Munn.  Students from 5th grade provided us a skit from the November RC lesson about compassion.  Students also shared their journal reflections from their RC journals and shared their goals to continue being compassionate to others at school and home.   The December theme is acceptance.  The monthly lesson asked students to participate in a lesson about the challenges we all face and reflect in their journal about how they can support classmates through challenging experiences.   In January the building theme is kindness.  Please join us at the SOAR assembly on January 6 to experience the impact our students and staff are having at Munn and beyond putting our efforts into actions

At our November 10th Veteran’s Day recognition we took time as a school to mark incredible commitment of our veterans.  Throughout the week students learned about the countless contributions and sacrifices our veterans make and have made throughout our history.  At the November SOAR assembly students and staff were recognized for their work showing kindness.  We also recognized students who are modeling our building themes kindness, compassion and acceptance.  Our focus for November is compassion.  The Munn Turkey Trot reached a new high.  Close to 95% of students participated in the run on November 14 along with many of the staff.  Visit http://www.spencerportschools.org/slideshows.cfm?newSlideID=89 to see the fun had by students and staff.  We celebrated Thanksgiving at Munn with our traditional dinner on November 18.  Staff dined with students in the cafeteria.  This was a special moment for students and staff to enjoy a great meal together and build upon the already positive relationships fostered at Munn.

At our October SOAR assembly, the elementary program to Rachel's Challenge (www.rachelschallenge.org) was re-introduced to Munn students by members of the building planning team.  Munn has developed year long monthly character traits based on the core principals of kindness, compassion and acceptance.  The theme for October is kindness.  Building wide monthly lessons have been developed using the curriculum from Rachel's Challenge to teach students the power of positive words and actions at school and at home.

All students and staff will be engaged in enrichment opportunities at Munn Elementary School.

The Munn School Wide Enrichment team has been working to build upon the success of our enrichment clusters from last year. Please visit the Munn site for a look back on our efforts.    Twenty two enrichment clusters, consisting of  K-5 students, have been created through the collaboration of students and staff.  These clusters will be facilitated by Munn staff and community members.   Enrichment Cluster planning days for students and staff are March 9th and April 27th. Cluster Week is May 7th – May 11th.  Learning Night is May 17th.

Clusters culminated at Learning Night on April Clusters c14.  The outcomes to clusters were incredible.  The clusters enriched students and staff and added to our positive school culture.

The Munn Elementary School Building Planning Team will implement the District's data plan in support of our efforts to achieve the District's student achievement targets.

Munn Elementary School continues to be reflective on student learning. As a staff,  we consistently analyze student achievement data to inform our instruction. We make changes as educators to how our skills can be sharpened to meet the learning styles and needs of students.   Our efforts take place at team, literacy and faculty meetings. This analysis of data allows us to adjust our efforts and identify targeted instruction for our students. We as a school welcome the opportunity to partner with parents and caregivers in the education of their children. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions on how you can continue to support the literacy and numeracy growth of your child.  Thank You for your continued support!!
