ELA instruction 6-12

Spencerport ELA teachers continue work with the district’s administrative staff and other outside agencies to ensure that our students are well prepared to face the rigorous expectations set by the Common Core Learning Standards for ELA and Literacy.

From the New York State Department of Education

In 2011, the Board of Regents approved the recommended additions to the Common Core Learning Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy and Common Core Learning Standards for Mathematics, plus a new set of Prekindergarten Standards. These standards, as well as all ancillary documents, are available on the New York State Education Department’s website.

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is engaging teachers, administrators, and education experts across the state and nation in the creation of curriculum resources, instructional materials, professional development materials, samples of test questions, test specifications, and other test-related materials that will help with the transition to the New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS). Additional information about the P-12 Common Core Learning Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy is available on the EngageNY website.

From The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC)

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is a consortium of 19 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands working together to develop a common set of K-12 assessments in English and math anchored in what it takes to be ready for college and careers. These new K-12 assessments will build a pathway to college and career readiness by the end of high school, mark students’ progress toward this goal from 3rd grade up, and provide teachers with timely information to inform instruction and provide student support. The PARCC assessments will be ready for states to administer during the 2014-15 school year. More information concerning the PARCC Assessments can be found at The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers’ website.
