Spencerport Equity Committee

Spencerport Equity Committee

The Spencerport Central School District created an Equity Committee during the 2019-20 school year. More than 50 volunteers offered to serve on this committee, and stakeholders include students, parents, community members, civic leaders, teachers, staff and administrators from each of our schools and district.

The goal of this committee is to gain insight and guidance on our CRE efforts. The committee originally scheduled three meetings, however with COVID-19 closure, two meetings have been held so far.

The PowerPoint from the June 9 meeting may be found at this link.

Equity Committee members engaged in an open conversation about the race-related death of George Floyd and the state of race and education in Monroe County. Members also spoke about solidarity with our students and families of color, and shared thoughts and ideas for educators to be part of the necessary change to end systemic racism. The saved chat from the Zoom meeting may also be found at this link.

Meeting on Jan. 29, 2020

The first Equity Committee meeting focused on opening the dialogue on race, engagement activities, and discussions on why this work is so important.
