Driver's education

Updated Jan. 2021 -  Due to Covid restrictions, we hope to offer driver education in the Summer of 2021. Updates will be shared via our social media pages and a letter sent to the homes of current high school Juniors and Seniors when we have detailed information to share.

Open to all - district residents have first priority for winter/spring session and summer session.

Fall/Winter and Winter/Spring Sessions - see calendar pdf below

Sessions run approx. 3rd week in Sept - Jan. and 1st week of Feb. until the first week in June. 

  • Classroom training on Tuesdays 3PM to 4:30PM at the high school 
  • Driving time selection process - seniors choose first, juniors next, then sophomores in order of time of registration
  • Selection for road class day and time slot will be completed at the informational meeting.
  • Road class times are either 3 to 4:30 p.m., or 4:30 to 6 p.m.
  • Road classes or driving times: Mon., Tues 4:30p.m. only, Wed., Thurs. or Friday.

Fee: $425 due at time of registration - refunds are granted for those that do not get into the program.

Summer Sessions:

Classroom M- F from 10 a.m. to  11:30 a.m.(meets 16 times)

Driving times (road classes) run 1.5 hours and multiple time slots available starting at 7 a.m. choice of A days M, W, e/o F or B days T, Th, e/o F 

About the Driver Education program, it is a combination of 16 classroom and 16 road class sessions. Students who complete all the requirements of this course will receive a Student Certificate of Completion that gives the holder the privilege to receive a class D operator’s license at age of 17 allowing them to drive after 9 p.m.

A 10% discount on liability and collision insurance is available from most insurance companies.

The 5-hour pre-licensing class ($35 fee) and the loan of a text is included in the class fee.

Quick Facts:

  4. Students can drive after 9 p.m. when they turn 17 years old after completing the course.
  5. Students need to be 16 years old on the day of the first class.
  6. Open to all districts, however in district and Spencerport students have priority over non-residence students for fall winter and spring sessions.
