Home of the Rangers!
On behalf of our school community, I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to vote yesterday.
As you know, this year’s budget proposal was not approved, by a difference of 53 votes. While individual reasons for this outcome may vary, the feedback we have received from our Budget Focus Group and broader community suggest that inflation, economic strain, and tax increases continue to influence voting decisions.
We respect the outcome of the vote, though admittedly, this is unfamiliar territory for our district; the last time a Spencerport school budget was not approved was 25 years ago in 2001. Moving forward, we have three options to consider:
In the coming days, we will be determining next steps and keeping you informed on our progress. Please be assured we remain committed to listening carefully to our residents, while minimizing the impact on our students as much as possible.
Thank you for your continued engagement in our schools and throughout our community.
Ty Zinkiewich
Superintendent of Schools
Spencerport voters narrowly defeated the proposed 2026-27 budget by a 53-vote margin, and approved the proposition for student laptops and three board candidates.
A total of 1,543 Spencerport School District residents voted this year, with the following results:
This outcome means we must now determine next steps, which could involve adopting a contingency budget or holding a revote in June. We will inform our community once a decision has been made.
We are so proud of our Spencerport students, representing the district and BOCES 2 Career and Technical Education at the 2026 NYS SkillsUSA Championships, April 22-24, in Syracuse.
Special congratulations to senior D'sheaa Howard, who earned a second-place team finish in the Community Action Project: Child and Family competition. D'sheaa is pictured on the left with a team member from Gates Chili.
In total, BOCES 2 CTE students medaled in 11 competitions.

On April 15, Spencerport 10th-grade student Bridget Courtney traveled to Albany to represent Section V at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Student Leadership Conference. The conference is an annual one-day event for current sophomores and juniors. Students must apply and be chosen from a pool of athletes to represent their division. Bridget is the first Spencerport student to represent Section V at the conference.
Bridget is a three-season athlete, participating in varsity cross-country, indoor track, and outdoor track. She also represents Spencerport in the Section V Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) which meets to discuss the athletic communities across Section V.
“In SAAC, we do a lot of training with modified athletes,” said Bridget. “We have programs about sportsmanship, how to be a good teammate, and building community.”
Given her involvement in Section V leadership, Bridget applied to the Student Leadership Conference in the fall. “I thought this conference would be a good opportunity because I’ve never participated in leadership at the state level. I really wanted to learn what others are experiencing.”
The goal of the Student Leadership Conference is to help athletes sharpen their leadership skills to positively influence their teams and athletic communities. “For me, the best part of the conference were the speakers. They had past professional athletes and educators who had really interesting perspectives. Jeremy Thode, the keynote speaker, spoke about overcoming personal challenges which I thought was very interesting.”
Bridget plans to bring what she learned at the Student Leadership Conference back to her teams and the Spencerport athletic community, applying new leadership strategies and perspectives throughout her seasons.
Please note the last day of school for the 2025–2026 school year is as follows:
