On April 1, NASA launched its first manned mission to the moon in more than 50 years, and a Spencerport alum helped make it happen.
Darcy DeAngelis, a 2015 graduate of Spencerport High School, is a vehicle systems engineer at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. After years of work, she watched Artemis II, the rocket she helped build, take off.

The mission carried four astronauts on a flight around the moon – the first humans to make the journey in more than five decades. Darcy contributed to the Artemis II spacecraft in a major way, identifying every possible risk before the rocket left the ground to ensure a safe and successful mission.
Her mother, Judy DeAngelis, said she was beaming with pride by her daughter’s side at Kennedy Space Center for the launch.
“Her father and I couldn’t be prouder of Darcy. Watching her help make history with NASA is just incredible. She’s an inspiration to not just the community, but to me.”
Judy added that Darcy’s determination was clear from a young age. “Darcy’s worked so hard from the first day she stepped foot into Munn Elementary. She’s proof that anyone can achieve their dreams, even someone from a little town like Spencerport.”
