Kate Zobkiw, MS CASAC - District Drug and Alcohol Counselor

Kate graduated from The University at Albany in 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She continued on at The University at Albany to receive her Master of Science Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in 2007. Kate has been a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) with the State of New York since 2009. Kate has worked at a number of different levels of inpatient and outpatient drug and alcohol treatment centers throughout her career and joined the Spencerport Central School District in 2017.

 

The Role of the District Drug and Alcohol Counselor

  • Direct substance abuse counseling and education to students K-12
  • Works individually with studentswho use substances or have family members that use substances
  • Coordinates student presentations
  • Work collaboratively with community prevention partners/treatment agencies
  • Provides staff professional development
  • Parent educational opportunities
  • Referral to community agencies for substance abuse services

 

How are students identified to work with the Drug and Alcohol Counselor?

Students can be referred to work with the Drug and Alcohol Counselor as part of a CARE Team referral or as a response to a code of conduct violation.  Students and can also self-refer support services.
