Frequently Asked Questions
These are the most common questions and claims circulating about the budget vote, accompanied by factual responses to ensure accuracy so our communtiy stays informed and engaged.
Q: Why weren’t these reductions made before the first vote?
A: The first plan tried to keep school programs and services the same, so these cuts were not included. After the budget defeat, the plan was changed and now reflects targeted reductions, lowering the tax increase from 4.7% to 2.8%.
Even with these changes, students will be affected much less than they would be with a backup (contingent) budget.
Q: Why are we voting at District Office, where the rooms are currently under construction?
A: Holding the vote in our long-established location ensures consistency and familiarity for participants to know where to go.
Despite ongoing construction, appropriate measures have been taken to minimize disruption—particularly when compared to hosting it in a school setting, where students are present.
The district will conduct budget votes until it passes.
A: False. There are three options following a defeated budget:
- Adopt a contingent budget
- Conduct a revote with no changes
- Hold a second vote with proposed revisions
Spencerport determined that a second vote with proposed reductions would limit further impact on students.
IF defeated twice, a contingent budget is the legal requirement moving forward, not subsequent votes.
The budget includes items such as a concession stand in the HS East Cafeteria.
A: False. A request has been submitted by the sports booster club to NAME the concession stand after longtime volunteer, Chuck Pennica.
The budget includes EV buses.
