2024-25 School Start Times review

Why consider a change to school start times?

Sleep is critically important for all students, and you may have noticed an increasing number of school districts are changing start times. This change is meant to address the growing scientific research and evidence that indicates high school students require more sleep and would benefit from starting their day later in the morning.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) published a position statement in 2014, stating that middle schools and high schools should begin no earlier than 8:30 a.m.
